Santo Antonio

Designed to generate energy in large quantities and at a low cost, the Santo Antônio Hydroelectric Power Plant, which is part of the Rio Madeira Hydroelectric Complex in Rondônia, will have an installed capacity of 3,150 MW. Odebrecht Energia is in charge of the project, and will also participate in the plant operation through the company Santo Antônio Energia.

Contribution to a Low Carbon Economy

  • 3,150 MW of clean and renewable energy for millions of Brazilians
  • Innovative run-of-the-river design that uses high performance bulb turbines
  • Drastic reduction of the area to be deforested for the reservoir
  • Reduction in GHG emissions during the entire lifecycle of the development

Inventory and reduction of GHG emissions during construction

  • Estimated emission of 1,478.460-t of CO2e for the entire construction work period
  • 62% in indirect Scope 3 emissions (transportation and production of cement and steel)
  • Lubricants and fuels account for 34% of all direct emissions
  •

Emissions per Source in Tons of CO2e

Actions to improve the emission balance sheet:

  • Operations together with steel and cement suppliers to promote best practices and improve the efficiency of emission control.
  • Advanced technologies to reduce the consumption of fuels with the monitoring of equipment in real time via satellite.
  • Optimization of the construction site, reducing the deforested area by 35% with relation to that authorized – 140,000 tons of CO2e in deforestation avoided.
  • Optimization of the construction work to anticipate energy generation and supply an additional 10,500 GWh for the Brazilian electrical system – reduction of 1,700,000 tons of CO2e.
