Renewable Energy, Reduction of Emissions and Local Sustainable Development

  • 15% increase in the generation of hydroelectric energy in the Dominican Republic starting in 2012.
  • 120,000-t of CO2e per year in reduced GEE emissions.
  • Potential reduction in the annual import of 400,000 barrels of oil to generate energy.
  • Innovative proposal to use carbon credits to promote sustainable social and environmental programs.

In support of Empresa de Generación Hidroeléctrica Dominicana, Odebrecht is developing a project within the sphere of the Clean Development Mechanisms to obtain carbon credits associated with the generation of renewable energy.

The credits will allow for the implementation of a local sustainable development program, designed to help improve work and income opportunities and the environmental quality in the region, to be built and implemented in partnership with the local communities and NGOs.
