Odebrecht’s History in the Country:
Construtora Norberto Odebrecht has been in Venezuela since 1992, when it began to construct the Lago Mall Center in Maracaibo. Since then, it has prioritized the formation of local teams and developed partnerships with Venezuelan companies and institutions.
The company delivered the Line 4 project for the Caracas Subway in 2006, with Odebrecht Venezuela also responsible for its extension. The project is scheduled for conclusion in 2012.
Another of Odebrecht’s accomplishments was the Orinoquia Bridge, which was ready in 2007 after five years of work. The structure is the second to be built over the Orinoco River in Ciudad Guayana, and plays a decisive role for the country’s economic and social integration. A road and railway bridge extending 3,156 meters long, Orinoquia Bridge has two navigation channels and an associated road system that extends 166 kilometers.
As part of this project, the company launched the book “II Puente sobre el Rio Orinoco: La construcción de um hito de ingenieria sudamericana” ("Second Bridge over the Orinoco River: the Construction of a Milestone in South American Engineering”), which highlights the challenges involved in the construction work.
In 2008, with the increased number of projects in the country, the company recovered its growth. The contracts included the second bridge over Maracaíbo Lake, the right dam of the Tocoma Hydroelectric Power Plant and the Mariche and Waraira Repano cable cars.
Currently, Odebrecht Venezuela is also responsible for completing, among others, the third bridge over the Orinoco River, the Caracas-Guarenas-Guatire intermodal system, as well as Line 2 of the Los Teques Subway.
Ação Social
The La Granja brand poultry is produced by the students of the Robinsoniana Agricultural Technical School as the result of an Odebrecht Venezuela project. The action occurs in the region in which the third bridge over the Orinoco River is being built.
The first stage of the Pollos La Granja project involved investments of US$ 100,000, 500 people and produced 30,000 chickens.
Odebrecht is also part of the Maracaíbo Plain Socialist Agrarian Project. Approximately 27,000 hectares will be benefited by the action, which will extend from the Colombian border until near the city of Maracaibo. In the region, 11,000 families will inhabit five planned urban centers, with irrigation systems for the production of 475,000 tons of food.
The project emerged from a contract initiated in 2003 for the construction of the El Dilúvio-Palmar Irrigation System. What was meant to be an engineering project became the embryo of a social initiative.
In the areas surrounding the construction work for the Los Teques Subway Line 2, Odebrecht receives the support of the Venezuelan company Vinccler to undertake its social actions. Together, the companies form the “Line II Consortium". At the same time, the construction company created the concept that will become the Training Center for Unified Entrepreneurs.
