In 1993, Construtora Noberto Odebrecht began operating in Germany, where Emil Odebrecht had left for Brazil 137 years earlier.

Odebrecht Bau was created to operate initially in the former Western part of the country, which underwent an intense privatization program, and should operate later in other countries of Eastern Europe as well.

The company also headed housing and urban infrastructure developments in the country.
