Construtora Norberto Odebrecht started operating in the country in 1993. On the occasion, the company constructed 115 kilometers of highway from Santa Cruz de La Sierra to Trinidad. The construction work was completed in 1995.

Nine years later, the company returned to Bolivia. This time, to build 114 kilometers of the Bio-Oceanic Corridor, the road between El Carmen and Arroyo Concepción, in the country’s Eastern region. The development reunited Odebrecht with the Bolivian company Ingenieros Asociados (IASA), with aims of connecting the Atlantic and Pacific.

The contract for the Bio-Oceanic Corridor, in the amount of US$ 75 million, is part of a road corridor that allows drivers to travel by land from Brazilian ports, such as Santos, to the coast of Peru and Chile. The action facilitated and reduced the cost of transportation between Mercosul e and the Andean Community. It also increased tourism in the region.

One of the main projects undertaken by Odebrecht the country was “Rescuing the Value of Cultures: Ayoreos, a People with Values.” The initiative to revitalize the Ayoréode indigenous culture was designed to improve and enhance the final quality of the handmade products produced by the natives. The company also supported the resale of the produced pieces, such as bags, sandals, curtains and decorative objects.

The “It is Never Too Late” Literacy Program was directed at Odebrecht Members and their spouses who did not have the opportunity to study. The company shifted work schedules to make time for the classes and offered the students transportation.
