Odebrecht’s History in the Country:
Built on the Limay River, Pichi-Picún-Leufú – the plant located in the province of Neuquén, Patagonia – was the first construction that Construtora Norberto Odebrecht undertook in Argentina. The development is symbolic of the company's 20-year presence in the country, celebrated in 2007.
Pichi-Picún-Leufú was designed to guarantee the reduction of the energy deficit in Argentina and reduce its dependence on natural gas, currently the country’s main source of electricity generation.
The West Access to Buenos Aires was the second project in the country. In September 1993, the company was awarded the contract for the construction, improvement, repair, conservation, administration and operation of the freeway. The development was won as part of a consortium with the Argentinean company Benito Roggio & Hijos and the Mexican Development Group (Grupo Mexicano de Desarrollo or GMD).
The work, concluded in 1998, was divided into four stretches totaling 56 kilometers between Luján, the municipality of the Greater Buenos Aires area, and the Federal Capital.
Another project was the expansion of the San Martín and Neuba II gas pipelines – operated by the private company Transportadora de Gas del Sur (TGS) -, completed from February to August 2005. In six months, 456 kilometers of pipes were installed along a 2,200-kilometer stretch.
Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial is currently completing the Cammesa and Albanesi gas pipeline expansion projects. The developments will increase the gas supply in the country from the current 120 million cubic meters per day to 145 million cubic meters.
The Continuous Catalytic Reformer is another one of the company’s new projects in the country. It will be located in the city of La Plata, province of Buenos Aires, and will expand the capacity of the La Ensenada Petrochemical Plant and La Plata Refinery.
After winning the bid to complete the project, Odebrecht Engenharia Industrial assumed the challenge of placing the new unit into operation by 2012. The related investments will total US$ 348 million.
Ação Social

Odebrecht takes part in three social responsibility programs in the country. In the city of Tigre, province of Buenos Aires, the company founded the School of Trades and Cements in partnership with public initiative and teaching institutions. The idea is to promote the qualification of workers for services related to the construction industry. The courses are geared toward Members of the company and local youth interested in improving their knowledge of the area.
In Partido Villarino, also located in the province of Buenos Aires, Odebrecht supports the local urban waste treatment policy through the project “Médanos em Origen.” The program is held through three lines of work: training of people whose work will be related to urban cleaning services, the structuring of an eco-plant for the separation, classification and compacting of the collected waste and awareness raising about the appropriate disposal of garbage.
The company also contributes toward social inclusion in Dolavon, a province of Chubut, by supporting the Professional Training Center No. 654, created in 2006 upon initiative of the local government. The training center promotes metal-mechanic, tourism, gastronomy and beekeeping courses, among others. In addition to supplying construction material and equipment designed for restructuring the school’s physical installations, Odebrecht offers Safety and Quality courses to the faculty and its engineers are available to review theory textbooks.
