Construtora Norberto Odebrecht (CNO) took its first steps in Bahia in 1944. The creation of the company was way for Norberto Odebrecht to recover the business started by his father, which had accumulated debt.

Nearly seven decades later, the operations in the Engineering and Construction sector have reached the greatest scale in their history. The context is another – the construction company grew, won over the world and diversified its areas of operation. To maximize the potential of these advances, in 2009, CNO underwent a process of restructurization: the construction company was dismembered into six independent companies.

Despite the changes, the philosophy behind each project remains the same. The some 126,000 Members of the companies that currently make up the Engineering and Construction business are oriented by the Odebrecht Entrepreneurial Technology (TEO), developed by Norberto Odebrecht.

The practice of TEO, whose highlights are planned delegation, based on trust and partnership, and the decentralization of operations, guarantee exemplary operations in highly complex projects. This level of effort and dedication helped elevate CNO to the position of the sector’s largest company in Latin America. And important projects have received awards and distinction from the market throughout its history.

Today, the Engineering and Construction companies continue forward with the achievements earned by CNO. All of them share the 2020 Vision, common to the Organization, and work to maintain Odebrecht’s standards.

The challenge of taking development to other sites is nothing new. The leading companies, which carry all of CNO’s legacy, have a portfolio that includes projects developed in 35 countries.

The first construction project completed by the company outside Brazil began in 1979. The Charcani V Hydroelectric Power Plant was erected along the slopes of the Misti Volcano, in the Peruvian Andes Mountain Range. Six years later, Members crossed the Atlantic to build the Capanda Hydroelectric Power Plant in Angola, the largest engineering project to be undertaken in that country at that time.

In addition to contributing toward the development of different regions, CNO has diversified its operations throughout its history, having completed over 1,800 construction projects. These include:

  • Dams
  • Thermal Electric Power Plants
  • Hydroelectric Power Plants
  • Steel Mills
  • Nuclear Centers
  • Petrochemical Companies
  • Tourism and Real Estate Complex Buildings
  • Subways
  • Highways
  • Railroads
  • Bridges
  • Ports
